Sub-licensing
We have granted non-exclusive, internal research-use sublicenses under certain of our gene targeting patent rights to a total of 15 leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.  Many of these agreements extend for the life of the patents.  Others have terms of one to three years, in some cases with provisions for subsequent renewals.  We typically receive up-front license fees and, in some cases, receive additional license fees or milestone payments on products that the sub licensee discovers or develops using our technology.  We also make certain aspects of our technology available for use in public sector scientific and medical research.


National Institutes of Health.  We were awarded a three-year contract in October 2005 to provide selected knockout mouse lines and related phenotypic data to the United States National Institutes of Health (NIH).  These materials are related to genes that we have already knocked out and analyzed.  NIH will make these materials available to researchers at academic and other non-profit research institutions, while we retain the sole right to provide these materials to commercial entities.  More information on these lines can be accessed at www.nih.gov.






Taconic Farms, Inc.  We have established a collaboration with Taconic Farms, Inc. for the purposes of marketing, distributing and licensing a collection of our knockout mouse lines and related phenotypic data packages. Texas Institute for Genomic Medicine.  We were awarded $35 million from the Texas Enterprise Fund in July 2005 for the creation of a comprehensive knockout mouse embryonic stem cell library containing 350,000 cell lines.  We created the library using our proprietary gene trapping technology for the Texas Institute for Genomic Medicine (TIGM), a non-profit institute we founded with Texas A&M University and Texas A&M University System Health Science Center.  We also provided TIGM with a laboratory management system to manage the resource and track the production of mice from the library.  TIGM also has certain rights to utilize Lexicon's patented gene targeting technologies.  Researchers from around the world should contact TIGM to access this valuable resource.  For further information, please visit www.tigm.org.
