Bringing innovative drugs to market requires a true commitment to the development of breakthrough therapeutics. To focus our commitment, Lexicon has set an aggressive but achievable goal we call 10TO10.
Our goal is to advance 10 drug candidates into human clinical trials by the end of 2010. With three years to go, we are well on our way:
- Clinical trials are underway for four drug candidates,
- Two additional candidates are in preclinical development, and
- Several additional compounds are in preclinical research.
In addition to our internal pipeline, we are discovering and developing additional drug candidates with selected pharmaceutical companies to maximize our success in developing breakthrough therapeutics.
Robust Pipeline of Validated Drug Targets
Over and above these existing drug candidates, Lexicon has identified and validated more than 100 drug discovery targets covering a wide range of therapeutic areas. This robust pipeline presages a promising future and is a credit to our Genome5000TM program. Initiated in 2001, this effort to discover the function of 5,000 mammalian genes is nearly complete. These efforts, together with our state-of-the-art medicinal chemistry facility and dedicated chemistry and biotherapeutics teams, provide Lexicon with the means to identify and develop small and large molecule modulators of our validated drug targets.
The 10TO10 program reflects the productivity of Lexicon's research and the commitment of our scientists to our mission: to discover breakthrough treatments for human disease.
